Lately, the bar scene hasn't been doing much for me. Go on and call me an old lady, but these days my face lights up when I tell people I have no plans for the weekend. I used to love going out, and I still do when the right mood strikes, but it usually just ends up being an expensive and crowded night and I crap out way earlier than everyone else. And then get grumpy.
However, when a friend asked me to go out and check out Screwtop Wine Bar in Clarendon on Saturday night, I figured I could make an exception. Now that, my friends, is my place. A warm and cozy space with long tables sprinkled throughout a room enclosed by shelves of wine and snacks. By the time we got there, it was pretty full but we put our names on the list and ordered a glass of wine. After less than 45 minutes, we sat down at the bar and ordered a cheese flight of Manchego, Goat Gouda, and Bemmster.....and another glass of wine.
Pardon the crappy phone pics that I've spruced up with Instagram.
I love cheese, and I love wine. So basically, I love this place. Only thing that could make the night better was a kick-ass dessert. We shared an oversized helping of the Oreo Bread Pudding (which, on our third glass of wine, was gone in about three minutes before I thought to take a picture).
Of course, I thought to take a picture of myself though. Always a blogger.
In addition to the cheese and desserts, Screwtop also offers a full dinner and brunch menu and the prices are fairly reasonable. Also--free parking! *Don't worry, we weren't driving.
As soon as I arrived home, I promptly passed out on the couch. Yep, still an old lady...
I'm just like you - I don't mind going out, but I usually get grumpy when we're out late, spending a ton of money at a crowded, loud bar. This sounds like the perfect place!
ReplyDeleteSounds just like my type of scene. Wine, Cheese, free parking! What's not to like?
ReplyDeletewhat's your instagram name? i need to follow you (i'm sure it's somewhere here...i will find it!) i am the same way, i love going out, but i cherish staying home. however, this bar would prompt me to go out, too. it sounds great. a flight of cheese? yes, please!!

DeleteWine and cheese? My favorites. A wine bar just opened in our town, and I'm so excited to check it out! I am with you, the older I get the more excited I am about having no weekend plans :) Low-key all the way!
ReplyDeleteI love this place! It's right down the street from me, and just walking past it makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean. Sometimes, I prefer to just stay home or go to a nice wine bar and resto to relax, especially after a long week of work. It's not one of those signs of aging, as how my buddies would call it, really. For me, it's more of treating myself to some quiet, but fun-wine-filled night of relaxation. B) Chill and cheers, Brenda!
